ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Stan Weisleder worked as an Actuary for most of his life. When he decided to retire it wasn’t to sit on the back porch and watch the grass grow. He became a cop, an author and had his own internet radio program, “The View From Over Here”. He put in 23 years with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, most of that time as a reserve Detective with the Child Abuse Unit of Special Victims. As an author he wrote three novels, one play and a half

dozen screenplays. His first novel is based on his personal experiences with the LASD and being the oldest one to have graduated from their Academy. His next novel, “A Killer of

Lions”, is the story of the Tuskegee Airmen that had to fight two Air Forces in order to be

recognized, the Luftwaffe and the US Army Air Corp. Stan is also available as a speaker on what to do after you retire.

THE WRITING JOURNEY

STAN WEISLEDER'S JOURNEY IS A CINEMATIC ODYSSEY THROUGH THE FORGOTTEN CORRIDORS OF AMERICAN HISTORY.

It began in the late 1970s, not with a pen, but with a fascination for the grit of the city and the stories hidden behind its brownstone facades. Over four decades, Stan has mastered the art of the historical narrative, evolving from a keen observer of human nature to a master storyteller who captures the raw energy of past generations.

I DON’T JUST WRITE HISTORICAL DRAMA; I EXHUME IT. MY JOURNEY HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT FINDING THE HEART IN THE SHADOWS AND THE LOYALTY IN THE STRUGGLE.

THE INSPIRATION

Stan finds his inspiration in the ‘what ifs’ of the 20th century. His work is deeply rooted in the historical reality of Brownsville—a place defined by ambition, betrayal, and an unbreakable spirit of survival. He draws from municipal archives, vintage city imagery, and the echoes of a lost generation to craft characters that are as complex as the eras they inhabit.

For Stan, every novel is a cinematic restoration of a legacy. He believes that by documenting the struggles of those who came before us, we preserve the very essence of the human journey.

STORY BEHIND THE BOOK.

There is no story behind the book as such, nor is there any underlying message or hidden theme. It was solely my intention to write a story that would interest readers and hopefully entertain them, nothing more.

Because I wanted to tell a story that covered an entire generation, not a couple of days or a few years in the lives of my characters, I had to first develop a detailed outline which took me over six months to prepare or one page per chapter. Once the outline satisfied me. I began to write. The first draft took me about a year and a half to complete. Then I began the process of re-writing which took longer than the actual writing.

My principal characters are composites of two, three or more real people and real events. Names were of course changed to protect the guilty as well as the innocent. Real names were used only if I felt that the person was reflected in a favorable manner. Everything in the book did happen, based on what I know, who I know and what I have been able to research. The research was over a foot high. Is it fact or fiction? I call it faction.
